One of
the subjects that lifts my countenance is to talk about my wonderful family. Keep reading as I introduce them to you...

Sandra Stanford grabbed a cup of coffee as she settled down for a quiet morning at her dining room table. With her NIV text, The Message and Strong’s Concordance overlapping her daytimer outlining her family’s schedule for the week, she flipped open to Psalm 118.28. "You are my God, and I will praise You. You are my God and I will exalt You."

Anna Beth
That is Anna Beth’s verse. AnnaBeth Sandra’s thoughts drifted to the day that she and her husband David brought Anna Beth home – a three-day-old baby with a cast on one little leg due to a club foot. Sandra had been the director of the Alpha Pregnancy Center in Titusville, Florida when a sixteen year old pregnant teen had asked her, “. . . would you adopt my baby?”

Anna Beth, who once danced her way into the Stanford family now dances to the delight of the Lord “We certainly have had our struggles,” said Sandra. “Philippians 4:6-7 has comforted me time and again. Worry about nothing. Pray about everything and the peace of God will come upon you.”

Anna Beth has had her challenges. She was diagnosed with ADD and needed to be home-schooled in junior high. “The privilege David and I have shared parenting and watching her grow into an active young lady on fire for Jesus has had its rewards. Now we will witness her excelling in high school!”

After Anna Beth’s adoption, Sandra still longed for another child. “David and I found out our blood types were incompatible -- and that is why I miscarried. We had to rely upon the doctors at the University of Miami who actually injected David’s blood cells into my arm. I’ve heard all my Christian life that there is power in the blood – I had now come to realize how true that statement was!”

Jonathan
Soon after, Sandra became pregnant and had a beautiful redheaded baby boy. “Jonathan is the strong, silent type. He exhibits kindness and compassion to his classmates as well as respect to his teachers. Recently, his fellow students presented him with The Best Citizen Award.”

Sandra’s descriptive verse for Jonathan is Jeremiah 17:7. "But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green and they go right on producing delicious fruit."

David
Sandra’s marriage to David has been quite the sporting event. “My husband lives, eats and breathes sports. Instead of becoming the proverbial football widow, I made a commitment even in our dating life to learn to love sports. Now we watch and attend games as a family.” David also loves the theme parks which has afforded quality family fun time. “It has been quite convenient living only one hour from Orlando. Even though David works at Cape Canaveral, he has had many opportunities to work at Disney Wide World of Sports during special events.”

David has been Sandra’s voice of reason. “When I get overloaded, he calms me down and brings me back to my reality.

David’s verse is Joshua 1:9. "I command you – be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

But God
Sandra meditated on the blessings God had granted as she sipped her coffee and reflected the journey through her Christian life. Scripture verses adorn her home and above her bedroom door is the phrase, ”But God.” Having experienced a father with heart disease who underwent multiple surgeries including a heart transplant in Houston, Texas, Sandra knew the times that God carried her. “When someone experiences a loss, I tell her to hold on – there is hope and peace on the other side of pain and grief. I don’t give pat answers, but I do know . . .”But God!”

Nuggets of Gold
Jotting down notes for her outline on this week’s study, Sandra prays. What message do you want me to give these women, O Lord? What gold nuggets of wisdom will ease that pain, heal that hurt or motivate that young, single mom to keep holding on?

“The most precious spiritual gift God has given me is the gift of exhortation – I love teaching the Bible. To watch lives being miraculously changed right before my eyes is icing on the cake.”

Sandra belongs to a local interdenominational, multi-cultural fellowship.

She feels it is important for her and her family to be plugged in. “The women’s Bible study has meant so much to me and has afforded me opportunities to teach.” Her children are super-charged by the youth group.

Sandra loves searching for the living gold in God’s Word – and sharing it with other women. Insightful wisdom peppered with wit and humor delights audiences of all ages and crosses all cultural boundaries.

“Researching various texts to examine all angles of a passage of scripture is such a privilege and an honor,” said Sandra. “I handle God’s Word like a jeweler cares for his diamonds. . . these are precious, precious jewels.”

1 Peter 1:8. You love Him even though you have never seen Him. Though you do not see Him, you trust Him and even now you are happy with a glorious and inexpressible joy!
